“One in three Native American or Alaska Native women will be raped at some point in their lives,” states Amnesty International, who released a report in April entitled Maze of Injustice: The failure to protect Indigenous women from sexual violence in the USA.

On Wednesday, May 9th 2007, United Indians of All Tribes Foundation (UIATF) and the Seattle Indian Health Board will host a press conference on the report from 6-7:30pm at the Daybreak Star Indian Cultural Center in Discovery Park.

Speakers will include

  • Susan Balbas, Chief Development Officer, UIATF
  • Crystal Tetrick, Associate Director of Healthcare Operations, Seattle Indian Health Board;
  • Denise Tagas, Youth and Family Services Director, UIATF
  • Christine Entrekin, Attorney, WA Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs.

The report has been featured in newspapers around the country, including The New York Times, San Francisco Chronicle and Indian Country Today.

Refreshments will be served.
