cafe daughter shelley niroCafé Daughter is a coming-of-age story about Yvette Wong, a young Chinese Cree girl in 1960s Saskatchewan who is told to keep secret her Cree identity, but later learns to take pride in who she is and embraces her Cree identity.

Q&A with Shelley Niro following the screening – Shelly Niro is a Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte filmmaker and visual artist from New York and Ontario. She is known for her photographs using herself and female family members cast in contemporary positions to challenge the stereotypes and clichés of Native American women.
