Our Strong Fathers

Reducing the personal, cultural and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Native fathers.

Who We Are

Our Strong Fathers is the only Seattle-based program focusing on Native fathers’ cultural and parental needs. We challenge stereotypes of masculinity and promote growth and healing.

What We Do

  • Challenging topics and discussions
  • Mentoring, support and resources
  • Sweat lodge, drum circles and powwows
  • Cultural crafts and responsive activities
  • Movie nights, family dinners and outings
  • Honoring ceremony

Eligibility

You are eligible to participate in this program if:
  • You are a Native or Indigenous father or father figure
  • You want to use cultural traditions as a parenting and/or mentoring tool
  • You want to improve your own well-being and cultural connection

Registration

Registration can occur at any time, even after a session has started. The program runs from January through September. Attendance is limited and applicants will be accepted on a first come, first-serve basis. A waiting list will be created as needed.

Fatherhood is Sacred

Using the “Fatherhood is Sacred/Motherhood is Sacred” foundation created by the Native American Fatherhood & Families Association, participants will strengthen their ability to incorporate Native beliefs and culture into positive parenting and mentoring. Our Strong Fathers is in partnership with Washington State Department of Children, Youth and Families.
